Brush 2 Wavy: The Newest Innovation in the Hair Industry

Gregory Joseph, who is also known as Gator, invented Brush 2 Wavy out of a need he had to get perfect waves for his hair. “I would spend hours brushing my hair with a traditional brush to achieve my waves” shared Gregory. It was out of this need and desire that Brush 2 Wavy was born.

His motto is ‘Changing the world one wave at a time’ and through this motto, he has been able to invent a brush that will save black men time in trying to achieve the beautiful waves they desire for their hair. Gregory was always gifted with his hands. As a child, he used to take apart his parents’ belongings and rebuild them to create something new.

Gregory Joseph’s passion for using his hands is what led him to become a jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force. He enlisted after 9/11. Here, he learned that no problem is too big if you’re willing to innovate and make things easier.

The inspiration for Brush 2 Wavy came about when Gregory noticed how a mother was having a difficult time brushing her son’s hair, a pain that he could relate to all too well. It was at this moment that he realized that he needed to be an innovator in the situation. So he went to the drawing board to design a brush that would create these waves in as little time as possible.

While inventing the brush, Gregory noticed how the hair industry for Black Americans is controlled and operated by Non-Black Americans. I would spend hours at a time researching products and realizing how big the hair industry was. The hair care industry generates billions of dollars annually and hair care products take up the largest part of it, but the industry caters mostly to women and so Gregory has come to change that.

How Brush 2 Wavy Works

The invention works by using a small electric motor connected to a set of gears, which is then attached to rotating bristles. As the bristles rotate against your hair, it mimics the process of someone brushing their hair, only a hundred times faster.

Brush 2 Wavy has a simple design that gives extraordinary waves. This solution is intended to save lots of time. The brush is a small rectangular object that has brush bristles on either side of the length of the rectangle. It has a circular brush in the center that will do all the work for you; you only need to move your hands to the desired area for the waves to form.

The Way Forward

Gregory Joseph lives by the words of A.P. Williams which says, “If you want to be the boss, you gotta boss up”. He has done just that with this new invention, which is set to take off in the black hair industry. Joseph is looking forward to where Brush 2 Wavy will take him in the future and the impact it will have on the industry.
